Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu, choose About This Mac, and look for "Chip" (Apple silicon) or "Processor" (Intel).

What you need

Tough Critic runs the critics on an AI provider you already use. Pick one in the app; you can switch any time. API keys are encrypted with your operating system's keychain and never leave your computer except to reach that provider.

  • Anthropic APIPaste an API key, or set ANTHROPIC_API_KEY.
  • OpenAI APIPaste an API key (any OpenAI-compatible endpoint works), or set OPENAI_API_KEY.
  • Claude CodeUses your existing claude login. Run claude auth login if needed.
  • CodexUses your existing codex login. Run codex login if needed.

First launch

If your computer asks before opening the app the first time, here is what to do.

  • macOS

    Open the .dmg and drag Tough Critic to Applications. If macOS says it cannot verify the app, open System Settings, choose Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.

  • Windows

    Run the installer. If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears, choose More info, then Run anyway. The installer picks the right version for your PC.
